Walking and hiking

In the Ribeauvillé-Riquewihr region, if you are either a confirmed hiker or an occasional walker, if you are either in couple or in family, if you prefer either mountains or vineyards hills… You will find spaces to satisfy your desires.

The Vosges mountains

The Vosges range (170 km long), which lays parallel to the Rhine river, is a mountain presenting different and various landscapes: rounded summits, lakes (from glaciers), forests, alternation of valleys and summits offering panoramic views…
The « Club vosgien » (name of the Alsatian hikers'association, created in 1872) marked out here more than 16 000 km of trails (just for the Alsatian side !) which allow the walkers and hikers alike to take time to discover the numerous wealth of the Vosges.

The « Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges » (Natural Park of Vosges’ « Ballons »)

The Ribeauvillé-Riquewihr region is an integral part of the « Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges (PNRBV) », one of the greatest parks in France (stretching out on 3 regions: Alsace, Franche-Comté and Lorraine); this park will be, for each visitor an unending source of inspiration: discovery of typical villages ; visit of vestiges of fortified castles; practise of sports (hiking, mountain biking, snow-shoe walking, cross-country skiing, horse riding), being in contact with the nature... so many reasons that incite, each year, thousands of people to discover the PNRBV.

Adopt the right reflexes during your hikes

  • I prefer to use the marked routes of the Club Vosgien (or the FFRP).
  • In groups, I walk in silence.
  • If you are hiking for several days, I prefer to spend the night in a refuge or inn.
  • I take care not to disturb the herds I meet, I keep my distance from the animals and I close the fences after my walk.
